Terry Pickeral, president Cascade Educational Consultants has extensive experience in policy development, advocacy, education reform, youth leadership, teaching and learning strategies, education collaborations and civic development. His commitment is to ensuring schools create and sustain quality teaching and learning environments for all students to be successful in school and contribute to their communities as active principled citizens.
He develops Cascade Educational Consultants initiatives and engages education and community leaders to establish a team-approach to carrying out corresponding programs and projects.
He provides technical assistance and training to teachers, state and district-level policymakers and education leaders on effective strategies to engage youth, create policies, increase effective school practice and engage community members to improve education and student success. He also provides professional development to these constituents in service-learning and civic development to ensure schools achieve their civic mission.
He facilitates training and technical assistance forums, authors articles and represents CEC throughout the United States and internationally.
For 12 years Pickeral was the executive director of the Education Commission of the States National Center for Learning and Citizenship (NCLC) leading a national organization of state and district policymakers and education leaders to advocate for quality service-learning can civic development in schools in the U.S. and internationally.
He has developed several successful national initiatives including the Learning In Deed Policy and Practice Demonstration Project, Anchoring the Investment, Every Student a Citizen, Schools As Citizens, Education Leadership Colloquium on the Civic Mission of Education and the 100 District Leader Network on Civic Engagement and Service-Learning as well as initiated and enhanced a series of international, national and state collaborations to advance the civic mission of education.

Terry Pickeral received his undergraduate degree from the University of Hawaii and his graduate degree from the University of British Columbia (Canada). He serves on the following boards: Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning (CIRCLE); Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools (CMS); Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL); Organization of American States Inter-American Program on Education for Democratic Values and Practices and the Service Learning Panamerican Network.
