Assign, Align, Adjust

3-As
Some years ago, a colleague talked to me about her use of the “Three A’s” strategy: assign, align and adjust. She shared that her father, a football coach, taught her these three simple ways to be strategic.

Recently, I have been reflecting on this framework and its application to education reform. Could education reform be this simple: to assign responsibilities, align responsibilities with outcomes and adjust strategies to increasing have positive impacts on students?

Sometimes, we just make things too complicated. We make things harder by introducing needless elements. And, increasingly we focus on using data to defend our strategies rather than enhance them for increased impacts.

To me, it just might make sense to apply these Three A’s as we strive to create and sustain the highest-quality education opportunities for students and to help them to develop to their fullest.
